The intermediate and advanced students, who insist on continuing their practices, get more and more of the taste of this great 5000+ year old wondrous way of life. Yoga is for the body, mind and spirit.
One comes to a spiritual ease with yoga through practice and more practice. When you practice yoga that combines asanas or postures, meditation and pranayama, then you will be able to see the spiritual side of it. Meditation, as well as know, takes time. You need to start slow, and practice regularly before you are comfortable with it. Meditation is the spiritual aspect of yoga, and it is a discipline. When you use pranayama breathing techniques with the asanas of yoga, then slowly you will see the spiritual side of yoga. But as we mentioned earlier, it’s all about time and practice.

Yoga is the most diversified spiritual practice in the world. Many scholars believe that yoga dates back over 5,000 years to the beginning of human civilization. The sole purpose of practicing yoga was to experience spiritual enlightenment. In Sanskrit (the ancient language of India), yoga translates as "yoke" or "union," describing the integration of mind and body to create a greater connection with one's own pure, essential nature.

The goal of our sadhana or practices is the highest Joy that comes from the Realization in direct experience of the center of consciousness, the Self, the Atman or Purusha, which is one and the same with the Absolute Reality. This Self-Realization comes through the three streams of traditional Yoga meditation of the Yoga Sutras, the contemplative insight of Advaita Vedanta, and the intense devotion of Samaya Sri Vidya Tantra, the three of which complement one another like fingers on a hand.

Specifically, ISKCON devotees follow a disciplic line of Gaudiya, or Bengali, Bhagavata Vaishnavas which is the largest branch of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Vaishnavism means 'worship of Vishnu', and Gau?a refers to the area where this particular branch of Vaishnavism is widely practiced, including Rajastan and Vrindavana. Gaudiya Vaishnavism has had a continuous following in India, especially West Bengal and Orissa, for the past five hundred years. Srila Prabhupada disseminated Gaudiya Vaishnava Theology in the Western world through extensive writings and translations, including Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana), Chaitanya Charitamrita and other scriptures. These works are now available in more than seventy languages and serve as the canon of ISKCON. Many are now available online from a number of websites.
Early western conversions to monotheistic Krishna Vaisnavism or the Bhagavata Vaishnava line which forms the basis of the ISKCON philosophy were recorded by the Greeks and are reflected in the archaeological record.
